On the 11th and 12th of April, in Lisbon, IPDAL organizes the “II Meeting: Latin America-Europe-Africa Strategic Triangle” With the High Patronage of the President of the Republic, the Meeting will be closed by the Minister of State and Foreign Affairs. This initiative serves to identify and highlight improvement processes in relations between the three continents. IPDAL suggested to SEGIB, taking into account the guidelines issued at the recent Cádiz Summit, to create a Reflection Group in Lisbon on the future of the organization. The debate was opened by the Summit of Heads of State and Government. IPDAL considers it useful, opportune and fair for suggestions to come from Portugal on the future of the Ibero-American General Secretariat. The newly appointed Secretary of State for Tourism, Dr. Adolfo Mesquita Nunes, was presented to the Latin American Ambassadors at the 5th IPDAL Tourism Forum – Publituris. On February 28th, the government official learned about the objectives and challenges of Latin American diplomats, at the same time that he shared his own vision of what he wants for the sector in Portugal. The new Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation accepted IPDAL’s invitation to dedicate his first meeting with a group of Ambassadors to Latin America. The initiative allowed Luís Campos Ferreira to present to Latin American diplomatic representatives and the government’s strategic line, in terms of foreign policy, towards the region. The Ambassadors spoke about convergence policies with Portugal, in a dialogue that focused on strengthening relations not only bilaterally but also between economic blocs – MERCOSUR and the European Union. IPDAL expresses its solidarity with the Federative Republic of Brazil, following the tragic incident that killed more than 200 people in the State of Rio Grande do Sul. On Sunday, January 27th, a fire broke out in a nightclub, where mostly young university students were present. The fire started when a pyrotechnic device, launched during a concert, hit the ceiling of the club. Most of the victims ended up dying from asphyxiation.
