On December 13th, the IPDAL leader had the opportunity to discuss, together with representatives from AICEP, the Wine and Vine Institute and CONFAGRI, the role of Latin America in Portugal’s exit from the crisis. The most recent report from the Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies (CELAC), on the region’s economic performance in 2012, is now online. Latin America has been, along with Asia, the region on the planet with the highest levels of economic and social development in the last decade. In 2011, growth in the region’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) was 4.3%. In 2012, Panama is expected to experience the greatest expansion, with GDP growing 9.5%, followed by Haiti (6.0%) and Peru (5.9%). IPDAL signed a Cooperation Protocol with one of the largest foundations in Argentina, FEPESNA (Fundacion de Estudios Políticos, Económicos e Sociales para a Nueva Argentina). The Protocol provides for joint initiatives and the exchange of precise information about the respective institutions, as well as annual formal meetings. IPDAL stands in solidarity with the Republic of Guatemala after the biggest earthquake in more than 35 years hit the country. The Central American state was hit by a strong earthquake, with a magnitude of 7.2 on the Richter scale, which left more than 50 dead and dozens missing. The natural disaster also affected more than 6 million people, mainly due to failures in energy and water distribution services. The Institute for the Promotion and Development of Latin America (IPDAL) held a networking lunch between Latin American ambassadors and Galp’s Executive Committee (EC). Headed by the President, Manuel Ferreira de Oliveira, the EC of the national oil company received the ambassadors at its headquarters. On October 24th, the Rentrée Política was held at the Grémio Literário, organized by IPDAL.
