The main sectors and entrepreneurs in Madeira were represented, in an initiative in which diplomatic representatives presented business opportunities in their respective countries. Last weekend, from June 29th to July 1st, the sixth edition of visits by Latin American Ambassadors to regions of Portugal took place. As part of the Institute for the Promotion and Development of Latin America, these trips were destined, in 2012, for the cities of Santiago do Cacém, Sines and Setúbal, including visits to Comporta and Tróia. Several ambassadors and diplomatic representatives from Latin America were present. Miguel Albuquerque chaired the first meeting of the consultative body of the Institute for the Promotion and Development of Latin America. On June 17, 2013, the new members of the Council were also presented: José Honorato Ferreira, João Monteiro de Barros, Bernardo Theotónio Pereira and Sofia Vieira. Paulo Neves, President of IPDAL, was received in an official audience by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Paraguay, on May 29th. The minister was accompanied by the Vice-Minister and the Ambassador of Paraguay in Lisbon. During this trip to Paraguay, Paulo Neves held a meeting with the team of the elected President of the Republic. The new President takes office on August 15th. The former President of the Republic of Uruguay, Júlio Maria Sanguinetti, received the President of IPDAL at his private residence in Montevideo. Paulo Neves invited Sanguinetti to participate in an IPDAL initiative in Lisbon. The former President of the Republic of Uruguay accepted. During the meeting in Montevideo, Sanguinetti and Paulo Neves spoke about relations between Portugal and Uruguay and also about the current situation in Latin America and Europe. President Sanguinetti made a point of taking a guided tour of his private residence where there are several very Portuguese references.
The President of IPDAL made an official visit to Argentina, on the 27th and 28th of May. Paulo Neves was received in Buenos Aires by the presidents of the External Relations Committees of both the Argentine Senate and Congress. He was also received at the Argentine Ministry of Foreign Affairs and held meetings with the three main foundations in Argentina. The President of IPDAL also held a meeting with the Portuguese Ambassador to Argentina, Ambassador Henrique Silveira Borges.

IPDAL organized a business mission to Paraguay and Uruguay. The delegation was chaired by Paulo Neves, President of the Institute. The new Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation presented himself to the Group of Latin American Ambassadors, in an initiative of IPDAL. On May 20th, Dr. Francisco Almeida Leite accepted IPDAL’s invitation to speak about the Government’s foreign policy in terms of diplomatic relations with Latin America and highlighted the evolution of Portugal’s relationship with these States. IPDAL took a delegation of ambassadors from Latin America, on an official visit, to the region of Porto and the North of Portugal. Between the 16th and 19th of May 2013, a group of Latin American ambassadors and diplomats held a series of institutional, business and cultural contacts in the Douro area. The cities of Porto, Espinho, Vale de Cambra, Arouca, S. João da Madeira and Vila Nova de Gaia were visited.
