The Institute made a donation to support the victims of the earthquake that, in April 2016, hit Ecuador. IPDAL joined the Caritas initiative to help in the effort to rescue victims, build shelters for the displaced population, provide food aid, hygiene items, water and sanitation, and material recovery of populations affected by the earthquake that killed more than 600 people . The new Ambassador of Argentina in Lisbon, Oscar Moscariello, presented his credentials to the President of the Republic of Portugal. On April 27, 2016, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa made an exception to the protocol and accepted that the accreditation ceremony would take place exclusively for Argentina’s new diplomatic representative, without the delivery of letters from any other ambassador. Following the recent earthquakes in the country, the Institute sent messages of condolence to the Ecuadorian authorities. Adriana Corcho and Efrén Monteagudo were victims of a terrorist attack on the Cuban Embassy in Lisbon, on April 22, 1976. The date was marked by Ambassador Johana Tablada de la Torre, next to the building where Cuba’s diplomatic representation was located 40 years ago. The 2016 Macroeconomic Report for Latin America and the Caribbean, from Banco Interamericano de Desarrollo (IDB), warns of the risks of negative growth. According to the IDB, many of the risks discussed in previous reports have materialized. On April 12th, IPDAL offered a reception to participants, organizers and guests of the “V Jornadas de Linguística Hispanica”. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) considers that, in 2016, Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean will be the sub-regions of Latin America most benefiting from the global economic situation. For the second largest Latin American economy, the IMF forecasts growth of 2.4% in 2016 and expects it to reach 2.6% in 2017.
