Alongside the world economy, the main trend for the Latin America and Caribbean region during 2015 is a slowdown in exports. It is estimated that the contraction will be 14% in sales of goods from Latin America and the Caribbean during 2015. This is the biggest drop since the beginning of the international financial crisis in 2010, reducing the value exported to 915 billion dollars . The Institute took the Latin American Ambassadors on another official visit to the country, this time to the Algarve. Between the 2nd and 6th of December 2015, the Institute organized a working visit to this region for the second time. The delegation was received by the Mayor of Albufeira, the municipality where it was based. After the official hearing, in the Town Hall, there was a visit to the city’s most emblematic places: main historical monuments, cultural attractions and tourist sites. The Executive Secretary of the CPLP and the Deputy Secretary General of SEGIB met in this second IPDAL initiative. Colombia took the opportunity to publicly announce its intention to join, as an Observer Member, the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries. Andorra, Argentina, Belize, Cuba, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Dominican Republic and Uruguay were the countries represented at the IPDAL stand. IPDAL was once again visited by the First Lady of Portugal, who made a point of speaking with the President of the Institute and with the diplomatic representatives of the countries represented about the various products on display. The President of IPDAL met with the Vice-President of Costa Rica, Ana Helena Chacón on October 22nd. The meeting took place in Madrid at the SEGIB headquarters. The Vice President of Costa Rica was on an official visit to Spain.
The President of IPDAL had lunch in Madrid with the historic founder of the PSOE – Spanish Socialist Party. The lunch, held on October 22, 2015, served to recall many historical episodes from the Iberian past and to analyze the current political situation in Latin America, Spain and Portugal. Raul Morodo was Ambassador of Spain to Portugal, Ambassador of Spain to Venezuela, historical figure and founder of the PSOE. As a young man, he was Humberto Delgado’s lawyer.
The Ambassador of Argentina paid tribute to the President of IPDAL, in a ceremony that the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation was keen to attend. The event took place at the Residence of Ambassador Jorge Argüello, on November 5, 2015.
