IPDAL celebrates Nicaragua Day

The Minister for National Policies of the Presidency of Nicaragua considered that the visit “exceeded all expectations”.

On November 18, 2015, IPDAL carried out a series of activities to promote Nicaragua in Lisbon. Present were the Minister-Private Secretary for National Policies of the Presidency of Nicaragua, Paul O. Kelley, the Nicaraguan Ambassador to Portugal – competitor in Paris – Ruth Tapia, the Director of Research for National Policies, Humberto Gonzalez, and the Consul – also resident in Paris – Luis Alberto Vargas.

The first activity was a conference on current affairs in the country and the Nicaraguan Interoceanic Canal, at the Universidade Nova de Lisboa (UNL), where students from Political Science and International Relations, Economics and Engineering attended. The pro-rector of UNL, the President of Porto de Sines and other distinguished guests were present.

A business forum followed, where companies from various sectors gathered: pharmaceuticals, engineering, construction, banking, consultancy, tourism, industry, telecommunications, among others. The meeting, with the support of Caixa Geral de Depósitos, served to raise awareness among Portuguese companies about the opportunities that already exist in Nicaragua and the potential that will be unleashed with the construction of the Interoceanic Canal.

The Nicaraguan delegation also had the opportunity to participate in the II Latin America Meeting – CPLP.

At the end of the afternoon, an exhibition of photographs from Nicaragua was opened at INDEG-ISCTE. Several Latin American ambassadors and diplomats were present, a representative of the President of the Republic, a representative of the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, the rector of ISCTE-IUL, the director of INDEG, among several other distinguished members of Portuguese civil society. . Nicaragua Day ended with an official dinner at Grémio Literário. The Deputy Secretary General of SEGIB, Ambassador Mariangela de Andrade Simões, was present, who publicly expressed the objective of strengthening ties with IPDAL.
