It was with deep regret that IPDAL received the sad news of the death of Professor Doctor Adriano Moreira, on October 23rd. Professor Adriano Moreira was an exponent of national politics, with relevant contributions not only to the Portuguese State but also to national academic knowledge, which earned him numerous awards and decorations. Their presence in the initiatives carried out by IPDAL made it possible to add invaluable value to the events. The Institute expresses its heartfelt condolences to family and friends at this time of immense pain.

It is with great sadness that IPDAL presents to the People of the United Kingdom its deepest solidarity in this hour of great pain due to the death of Queen Elizabeth II. The President of IPDAL signed in New York, where he is located, the Book of Condolences for the death of the monarch, highlighting the Sovereign’s “enormous sense of State and dedication” throughout 70 years of Reign. IPDAL had already sent a note to the United Kingdom Embassy in Portugal showing its deepest regret at the death of the Queen.
IPDAL presented, on September 12, in Portugal, the 2021 Economy and Development Report of CAF – Development Bank of Latin America to an audience of Latin American ambassadors, business leaders, Portuguese authorities and academics. In Washington DC, the President of IPDAL, Paulo Neves, met with the Secretary General of the Organization of American States, Luis Almagro. The meeting allowed the two institutions to identify common interests and the possibility of incorporating the Institute as an Observer Member of the OAS was also discussed. Also participating in the meeting were Gastón Ocampo, Director of the IPDAL Academy and member residing in Washington, and the entire staff of the OAS Secretary General.

IPDAL organized a lunch with the President of the Assembly of the Republic, Professor Doctor Augusto Santos Silva, and the group of Latin American ambassadors residing in Portugal. The second figure of the Portuguese State thus had the opportunity to speak closely with members of the Latin American diplomatic corps, taking the opportunity to offer his practical experience as a former Minister of Foreign Affairs and highlighting the importance of the region for Portuguese parliamentary democracy.
