On an official visit to Latin America, IPDAL’s President held a series of high-level meetings in Montevideo. In addition to the Vice-President and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uruguay, Paulo Neves met former President Luis Alberto Lacalle, several Directors of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and took part in a conference organized by Forum 2000. In Buenos Aires, IPDAL held meetings with Francisco Santibañes, President of the Argentine Council for International Relations, the main Argentine think tank dedicated to the study of International Relations, and with the Portuguese Ambassador to the Argentine Republic, Frederico Ludovice.

IPDAL and the Friedrich Naumann Foundation’s Office for Spain, Italy and Portugal held a high-level dialogue dedicated to analyzing the results of the legislative elections on March 10. IPDAL and the Friedrich Naumann Foundation publicly presented their newest report, How Security Challenges Shaped the European Union’s Common Foreign Policy. The event took place on February 9th at the Autonomous University of Lisbon and served as an open lecture. The presentation was given by the authors, IPDAL’s Deputy Secretary General, Manuel Raposo, and the academic and specialist in radicalization and extremism, Cátia Moreira de Carvalho. IPDAL brought together the Minister of Tourism of Paraguay, Angie Duarte de Melillo, with students from the Tourism course at the European University. After a brief contextualization of the work carried out on the Tourism course by Professor Cláudia Gouveia, the students presented a series of tourism projects focused on Paraguay, highlighting the importance of this sustainable industry and promoting inclusive economic growth. The event was also attended by the Paraguayan Ambassador to Portugal, Julio Duarte Van Humbeck, the Rector of the European University, Hélia Gonçalves Pereira and the Coordinator of the Tourism and Hospitality Area, Sofia Almeida.
IPDAL was once again present at the Lisbon Tourism Exchange, the biggest event in the sector in Portugal, presenting Latin American tourist destinations to the Portuguese public over five days. At the opening of its stand, the Institute brought together the Ambassadors of the countries present and the President of APAVT, Pedro Costa Ferreira, and its Executive Director, Ricardo Figueiredo. Professionals and the curious learned more about the region’s potential and offers for different types of tourism.
IPDAL attended the swearing-in of Miguel Rodrigues as Honorary Consul of Colombia in Porto. The ceremony took place at the Serralves Foundation on February 28th. Present were the Colombian Ambassador Jose Fernando Bautista and the Mayor of Porto Rui Moreira.
Gastón Ocampo was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He studied at Roanoke College, in the state of Virginia, USA, where he graduated in International Relations and Business Management. Former Member of the IPDAL Advisory Board and first Director of the IPDAL Academy, he arrived in Lisbon from Washington, DC, where he worked in the Office of the President of the Inter-American Dialogue, one of the main think tanks in the world dedicated to the study of Latin America.
