IPDAL signed a Cooperation Protocol with the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo. The document was signed by the Rector of the University of Santo Domingo – the oldest university in all of Latin America – and by the president of IPDAL, respectively Franklin Garcia Fermín and Paulo Neves. IPDAL was present at several National Days receptions in June and July. On June 24th was the Reception of the Ambassadors of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. The reception took place at the official Residence of the Ambassadors in Lisbon. July 14th was French National Day. The reception hosted by the French Ambassador took place at the Palácio de Santos. The President of the IPDAL Supervisory Board, Antonieta Kruger, participated in a Colloquium at the Assembly of the Republic, organized by the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs. The theme of the meeting was “Integration efforts in Latin America – Brazil’s perspective. Mercosur negotiations”. The main intervention was made by the Ambassador of Brazil, Celso Marcos Vieira de Souza. The Colloquium’s host was the President of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs, José Ribeiro e Castro.
Updated: Dec 4, 2020 IPDAL and Óbidos City Council organized a medieval dinner at Óbidos Castle. Latin American ambassadors in Portugal participated. The dinner served to promote one of the most beautiful historic Portuguese villages. The presidents of the Chamber of Óbidos and IPDAL highlighted the importance of the presence of Latin American diplomats in this location.
The President of IPDAL was present at the Meeting promoted by the Catholic University in Estoril. On June 25th, the panel on Latin America took place. This Summer Course run by the Catholic University had a thousand participants including students, specialists, teachers and speakers. This year Latin America was highlighted.
The Governor of the Atlantic Region, Eduardo Verano de la Rosa and his delegation, was received by the President of the Board and the President of the IPDAL Advisory Council on the 11th of June. The Governor was accompanied by the Ambassador of Colombia to Portugal, Arturo Sarabia. The delegation included, among others, the President of the Barranquilla Chamber of Commerce, Luis Fernando Castro and the Director of ProBarraquilla, Tatyana Orozco. The president of IPDAL made a presentation about Portugal (macro and export, import and investment data). Governor Eduardo Verano de la Rosa presented his Region. An official lunch followed.
The Ambassador of Argentina to Portugal Jorge Faurie – Dean of Latin American ambassadors – hosted a dinner in honor of the Ambassador of Mexico, Mauricio Toussaint and Madam for their farewell. The Ambassador of Mexico leaves Lisbon and goes to Canada. The Republic of Chile awarded Portuguese businessman Américo Amorim the Grand Officer Bernardo O’Higgins Order. IPDAL was represented by its President and Vice-President of the board. In his speech, Américo Amorim recalled the business he has been doing with Chile since the 1950s. Ambassador Ayala recalled that half of Portuguese exports to Chile are the responsibility of Américo Amorim’s companies. The decoration took place on May 26, 2010.
The Argentine Ambassador to Portugal, Jorge Faurie, hosted a reception in Lisbon – at the Jerónimos Monastery – for the Argentine community in Portugal and a group of guests. IPDAL was represented by the Presidents of the Board and the Supervisory Board. In his speech, Ambassador Faurie surveyed the 200 years of Argentine history and the relations between that country and Portugal. He recalled that Portugal was the first country in the world to recognize the Republic of Argentina. Several ambassadors accredited in Portugal were present at the Reception. National Day was celebrated on May 25, 2010.
The leader of the Social Democratic Party, Pedro Passos Coelho, met this Monday with Latin American ambassadors and members of IPDAL at a meeting organized by the Institute for the Promotion and Development of Latin America (IPDAL). In his intervention, Pedro Passos Coelho, spoke of the importance of Portugal’s relations with Latin America. He said that Portugal must strengthen these relations. Regarding the academic environment, he highlighted the importance of Universities in national life. He also made reference to the current economic situation in Portugal.
