IPDAL participated in the “External Cultural Action Seminar – Portugal in the World”, where it presented a joint project with Camões – Institute of Cooperation and Language. This initiative aims to take displays of Portuguese culture to seven capitals in Latin America, in three itineraries: Santiago de Chile, Buenos Aires and Montevideo; Mexico City and Havana; Bogotá and Panama City. Five activities will be promoted: photography; movie theater; gastronomy; literature and music. The President of IPDAL participated in the Round Table “The Reestablishment of Diplomatic Relations between Cuba and the USA and the Future of the Inter-American System” organized by the Autonomous University of Lisbon. Two of the most prestigious Portuguese Universities join forces as knowledge partners of the IV Meeting “Strategic Triangle: Latin America – Europe – Africa”. Universidade Nova de Lisboa and ISCTE – IUL accepted IPDAL’s invitation to be strategic partners of the Institute’s main initiative. This year, IPDAL will debate, among other topics, “Innovation, Science and Higher Education” where the two academies will be able to share their points of view and present concrete proposals for improvement for this triangulation. The President of IPDAL addressed a message of condolence to Ambassador Jean-François Blarel, following the attack on the satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo. Paulo Neves expressed dismay at the loss of human life, condemning an “act of barbarism, which results from an unacceptable terrorist action”. The President of IPDAL participated in the city of Veracruz at the SEGIB Business Summit. This Summit was attended by the General Secretary of SEGIB, Rebeca Grynspan, the former General Secretary of SEGIB, Enrique Iglesias, the Presidents of Mexico and Costa Rica and also the King of Spain. In addition to the President of IPDAL, the Chairman of Mota Engil was present from Portugal. Paulo Neves, President of IPDAL, met in Paris with the President of Maison de l’Amerique Latine, Ambassador Alain Rouquié. The President of IPDAL invited the President of Maison de l’Amerique Latine to visit Portugal, with a date already set. The invitation was accepted. At the meeting, the two presidents of the institutions that respectively promote Latin America in Portugal and Paris spoke about their respective institutions and identified future joint initiatives.
The President of IPDAL met, in Paris, on November 25th, with the competing Ambassadors in Lisbon, from several Central American countries. The meeting took place at Maison de l’Amerique Latine. The Ambassadors of Guatemala, El Salvador, Nicaragua and representatives of Costa Rica and Panama participated. The meeting identified the best ways to promote Central American countries that do not have an Embassy in Lisbon. Several future joint initiatives between Embassies competing in Lisbon, but residing in Paris, with IPDAL were approved.
The delegation led by the Institute’s Secretary General was received by a Minister, several Mayors and the country’s main financial institutions. The delegation was made up of companies from the following sectors: engineering, architecture, investments and fishing. As always, each company had its own work schedule, customized according to its specific objectives. Between the 8th and 12th of December 2014, the cities of Quito, Manta and Guayaquil were visited. The mission had the support of the Portuguese Embassy and Ecuadorian institutions.
Latin American ambassadors visited the city of Évora and presented business opportunities at a Business Forum, with more than 100 participants. On December 5th, around 100 companies gathered, in the initiative co-organized with the Évora Region Business Center, the Évora Commercial and District Association and Caixa Geral de Depósitos. The delegation was then received, at the Town Hall, by the Mayor of Évora, with whom he then had lunch, at the University. The First Lady of Portugal visited the Institute’s stand, at the 30th edition of the Diplomatic Corps Bazaar. On the 21st and 22nd of November 2014, IPDAL joined, for the first time, the annual solidarity initiative, in which embassies resident in Lisbon participate. IPDAL brought together the diplomatic representations of Uruguay and Cuba. At the Lisbon Congress Center, the Institute promoted typical products, food, drinks, crafts and various materials from these countries. Updated: Nov 24, 2020 IPDAL promoted a meeting between Ambassador Enrique Román-Morey and a group of Portuguese journalists from the areas of Economy, International Politics and Tourism. The objective was to publicize the business opportunities and areas of economic and tourist interest that Peru has to offer.
