On 16 October 2024, a working lunch was held between representatives of our institution and Sergio Diaz Granados, Executive President of CAF – Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean. During this meeting, the possibilities of a strategic partnership between the two institutions were discussed, as well as the calendar of activities planned for 2025. On 17 October, another edition of the Political Rentrée took place at the Grémio Literário. The event was attended by the Honourable José Aguiar-Branco, President of the Assembly of the Republic, as well as representatives from all the Latin American embassies: Paraguay, Uruguay, Venezuela, Argentina, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, Brazil, Chile and El Salvador. On the 11th and 12th of October, Casa de Santa Maria was the stage for the Foreign Policy and Strategic Thinking meeting, an IPDAL initiative with the support of Cascais city hall. On 9 October, a High Level Round Table was held with the Honourable Adriana Mira in collaboration with the Embassy of El Salvador. The event was attended by the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of El Salvador, Adriana Mira, in a conversation moderated by the Ambassador of El Salvador, Rhina Bardi and the President of IPDAL, Paulo Neves. On 7 October 2024, Dr Paulo Neves, President of IPDAL, took part in a ceremony in Miami to honour President Sebastián Piñera (1949-2024). The ceremony was attended by President Piñera’s wife. Dr Paulo Neves has had the privilege of meeting Sebastián Piñera on several occasions, as witnessed by the photograph taken in 2023 in Santiago de Chile. He also shares a common friendship with Pedro Pablo Diaz.

Between 20 and 25 September, the Institute for the Promotion of Latin America and the Caribbean (IPDAL) was the only Portuguese institute invited to join an international delegation visiting Kyiv, at the invitation of Ukrainian Prism and Eastern Circles. Representing IPDAL, Cátia Moreira de Carvalho joined a group of members of think tanks, governments and academics from various countries, reinforcing the institute’s commitment to international debate and co-operation. From 23 to 28 July, IPDAL visited São Tomé and Príncipe to promote the ‘Triangular Alliance for the Digital Transformation of Príncipe’ project, as part of SEGIB and Instituto Camões initiatives. This project is part of the ‘Triangular Cooperation Projects and Initiatives between Ibero-America and Portuguese-speaking African Countries (PALOP)’, promoting digital transformation, sustainable development, education and cultural integration. During the mission, meetings were held with local authorities and visits were made to educational institutions, as well as workshops on digital inclusion. This initiative reflects IPDAL’s commitment to the development of Portuguese-speaking countries, contributing to a more connected and sustainable society.

IPDAL was present at the XII Latin American Congress of Political Science: Latin America as an actor in the global geopolitical reconfiguration. The event had various panels and talks, such as a panel on the ‘Political Conjuncture in Brazil in 2024’, a round table with the theme ‘Latin America in a world undergoing global reconfiguration’ and the presence of Latin American Ambassadors, an ALACIP awards ceremony and the conference ‘Political Science and Democracy’, and an ALACIP General Assembly.

IPDAL celebrated one more Latin American Sunset Party in the company of the diplomatic corps, members of Parliament, and other friends of the Institute. The festivities took place at the Zambeze Restaurant, where a variety of Latin American drinks were served, provided by the various embassies.
