On November 4th, the Portugal – Latin America and Caribbean Conference “Together for sustainable development”, by CAF – Development Bank of Latin America, took place at the Thalia Theater, which had the support of IPDAL in the organization.

This conference – CAF’s first in Portugal – sought to promote dialogue regarding the transatlantic relationship, as well as identify challenges and future opportunities for sustainable development.

The event had 3 discussion panels on subjects directly related to economic recovery and the mutual contribution between Portugal, Latin America and the Caribbean. The topics included coastal tourism, sustainable water and sanitation models and, finally, the energy transition and investment opportunities in the sector in Latin America.

The work was opened by the President of IPDAL, Paulo Neves, by Sergio Díaz-Granados, Executive President of CAF, and by Fernando Medina, Minister of Finance of Portugal.

The Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Francisco André, spoke about the importance of the Atlantic relationship while João Galamba, Secretary of State for the Environment and Energy, discussed the importance of the transition to a green energy system, detailing the efforts made by Portugal in the area of decarbonization.

The Secretary of State for Tourism, Commerce and Services, Rita Marques, highlighted the role of IPDAL in bringing Latin America closer to Portugal and Europe through tourism, with the various initiatives promoted in this area by the Institute.

The Vice-President of the European Investment Bank, Ricardo Mourinho Félix, closed the initiative.
