Latin America promotes business opportunities

The Order of Engineers and the Institute for the Promotion and Development of Latin America (IPDAL) presented the Forum “Business opportunities in Latin America – Investments in the Construction sector”, during a lunch with all the Ambassadors of Latin America in Portugal. The Forum will take place in Lisbon on April 27th.

Representatives of the main Portuguese civil construction, public works, projects and construction materials companies will attend. During the event, Latin American countries will present business opportunities in their respective countries. At the moment, all Latin American countries have special Public Works Plans planned, involving hundreds of millions of euros. The objective of the Forum is precisely to make these business opportunities known to large, medium and small Portuguese companies. The Forum will also feature interventions from representatives of national banks and international institutions such as the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the Corporación Andina de Fomento (CAF) and the Euroamérica Foundation. The Minister of Public Works, Transport and Communications, Mário Lino, is the guest at the Conference Lunch that will take place on the same day. “If civil engineering companies are recognized for the quality of the works they carry out and if Latin American countries have construction plans to put into practice, our objective is to bring the two parties closer together, boosting investment in new projects”, he stated. the President of IPDAL. The President of the Order of Engineers recalled that civil engineering is an indispensable strategic resource to satisfy the basic needs of the population and to guarantee safety conditions. The sustainable development of Latin American countries and the improvement of the population’s quality of life depend greatly on investment in infrastructure for basic water supply and sanitation, housing, transport, energy and irrigation. “As the construction sector is growing in Latin American countries, it is our role to promote projects in new markets that support Portuguese companies to combat the current economic situation”, said on the occasion Fern ando Santo, the President of the Order of Engineers who he also leads the Association of Civil Engineers of Portuguese and Spanish-speaking countries. Latin America comprises the countries on the American continent that speak Spanish, Portuguese or French: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, El Salvador, Ecuador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay , Peru, Dominican Republic, Uruguay, Venezuela. The Institute for the Promotion and Development of Latin America (IPDAL), was created in 2005, in Lisbon, to strengthen relations between Portugal and Latin America in the economic, academic and cultural areas. Over these 4 years, IPDAL has organized visits by Latin American Ambassadors to various regions of Portugal. He has organized several Colloquiums and Conferences. He mediates dozens of business contacts and regularly participates in international events related to relations between Europe in general and Portugal, in particular, with Latin America.
