The Institute decided to distinguish Mota-Engil with the IPDAL-Vista Alegre Award, for the company’s constant commitment to Latin America. At the award ceremony, the President of Mota-Engil América Latina highlighted the various moments in which IPDAL concretely and successfully supported the company’s expansion into Latin American markets. Carlos Mota Santos reiterated his gratitude to IPDAL for the fruitful collaboration and stated the company’s interest in maintaining the partnership with the Institute.
The President of IPDAL praised Mota-Engil’s growing investments in the region, which already leads the construction company’s revenues in the world.

Regarding the Mota-Engil :
Mota-Engil, the leading group in Portugal in the construction and waste management sector, is present in 28 countries, eight of which are in Latin America. It began its activity in the region in 1998, through Peru, with the acquisition of the company Translei. Later, it was renamed Mota-Engil Peru and, through increased investment, it became one of the largest companies in the sector.
In Mexico, it began its activity in 2007 with the concession of the Perote-Xalapa highway, in the State of Vera Cruz, and, in 2012, the company Mota-Engil México was formed. Today it is one of the 5 largest construction companies on the market, having strengthened its presence in this country in the areas of Environment, Road Concessions and the Energy sector where, in 2015, it became the first private operator in the liberalized Mexican energy sector.
The group has been represented in Brazil since 2009, having started its activity in the area of transport concessions, in the State of São Paulo, expanding in the meantime to the Environment and road telematics systems; In 2012, the group acquired a stake in Empresa Construtora do Brasil, from Belo Horizonte, having been included in the Top 15 construction companies in this country in 2017.
In 2011, Mota-Engil América Latina expanded its activity to Colombia, and is currently developing a contract for the design and construction of 10 thousand classrooms, in addition to the construction and management of infrastructures and buildings in different areas of the country .
The group entered the Caribbean market in 2015, with a road concession in Aruba.
The following year, it expanded its area of activity to the Chilean markets, with the project to expand a sea port; of Paraguay, through a contract with the Ministry of Public Works and Communications for the design and construction of a public transport system; and the Dominican Republic, by securing a construction contract for part of the economically sustainable urban project.
Basing its activity on partnerships with local companies, Mota-Engil has grown exponentially in recent years through increasing investment in the Region. It went from a turnover of around 100 million euros in 2010, to a value close to 1,000 million in 2017. Last year, Latin America was the region with the greatest representation in the group’s turnover, which exceeds 2.5 billion euros.
