SEGIB considered the conference organized by IPDAL in the Portuguese Parliament to be unprecedented and assured that the Ibero-American General Secretariat itself would like to reproduce the format in other countries.
On March 11, 2014, the Institute organized a Conference dedicated to the theme “Portugal-Latin America Relations” in the Senate Room of the Parliament of Portugal.
The Parliamentary Foreign Affairs Committees met; Economy and Public Works; Education, Science and Culture to debate Portugal’s current relationship with the various Latin American countries.

The opening interventions of the Conference were made by the President of the Committee on Foreign Affairs and Portuguese Communities, Deputy Sérgio Sousa Pinto, by Deputy Feliciano Barreiras Duarte and by the President of IPDAL, who presented a general overview of the Region.
In the panel dedicated to the Economy, this initiative included interventions by the Executive Administrator of AICEP, Pedro Pessoa e Costa and the President of Accenture, José Galamba de Oliveira, who highlighted the Strategic Triangle “Latin America – Europe – Africa”, where Portugal should have an unavoidable role due to its privileged position in the Space and History of the Atlantic.

In the debate on Education, Science and Culture, the President of Camões – Institute of Cooperation and Language, Ana Paula Laborinho and Leonor Esguerra, Representative of the Iberoamerican General Secretariat (SEGIB) reflected on the economic dimension of culture and the multiple Portuguese representations in America Latin, both on a purely cultural and academic level. The Consolidation of the Ibero-American Cultural Space also played a major role.
Ambassadors from Latin America and other regions of the world were present, having gathered from nearly 30 countries. The Order of Pharmacists, the House of Spain, Chambers of Commerce, deputies and businesspeople were also present.
