As part of an initiative by the IPDAL Academy, Paulo Neves was invited to give a class at the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences (FCSH) of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa (UNL).
The central theme of the session was “Portugal as hub in the Atlantic triangulation: Latin America-Europe-Africa” but even broader topics were discussed, such as China’s position in the world and its geostrategic influence, current scourges and future challenges in the face of the current multipolar reality.
In front of a room with more than thirty Portuguese and foreign students studying Development Theories and Policies and also Political Science and International Relations, the President of IPDAL argued that Portugal is a Euro-Atlantic country, more than just a European one.
One of the fundamental themes of this conference was the extension of Portugal’s Continental Shelf, from 2021 onwards. The importance of effectively managing an extension of sea seven times larger than the continental territory, with countless resources yet to be discovered, was discussed, a responsibility to which the country will have to be prepared for.
