IPDAL – Institute for the Promotion and Development of America, the Autonomous University of Lisbon and the Embassy of the Dominican Republic in Portugal inaugurated on the 25th of February, the “Professor Juan Bosch Reflection Space”.

This “Space of Reflection” was opened to the public with a Conference that included the participation of Ana Silvia Reynoso de Abud, Ambassador of the Dominican Republic, Miguel Faria, Director of the University Education Cooperative, Rafael Pérez Modesto, Secretary of State in charge of the Ephemerides Homelands of the Dominican Republic, Nancy Gomes, Professor at the Department of International Relations at UAL and Minerva Batista, President of the IPDAL Advisory Board.
Topics centered on political life and the cultural contribution of this Dominican author were covered. At the end of the Event, Ambassador Ana Silvia Reynoso de Abud delivered a series of the author’s complete works to the UAL library and the public was able to watch an exhibition of photographs, also donated by the Embassy to the University, which represent a historical legacy important part of Juan Bosch’s life.
Juan Bosch was a politician, historian, short story writer, essayist, professor and the first freely elected President of the Dominican Republic, in 1963. Leader of the Dominican opposition during the dictatorial regime of Rafael Trujilo, he is remembered as an honest politician and as one of the writers most prominent in Dominican literature.
He was the founder of the Dominican Revolutionary Party (PRD) in 1939 and the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) in 1973.
The aim is to continue this “Space for Reflection” through initiatives aimed at disseminating Latin American thought.
