IPDAL promotes post-presidential election debate

The Institute for the Promotion of Latin America and the Caribbean (IPDAL), in partnership with ATREVIA Portugal, organised on 11 February, at the Grémio Literário in Lisbon, the event “Post-elections: Debate on the results of the second presidential round.” The initiative brought together representatives from different political perspectives, experts, and members of the diplomatic corps accredited in Portugal, creating a space for reflection on the implications of the recent presidential electoral process.

The event featured a panel composed of André Abraão, Youth Campaign Director for António José Seguro, President-elect of the Republic (PS); Bernardo Blanco, Campaign Director for João Cotrim de Figueiredo and former Member of Parliament (IL); Miguel Relvas, former Minister for Parliamentary Affairs (PSD-CDS); and Rita Matias, Member of Parliament (CH). The debate was moderated by Bernardo Chambel, Public Affairs Manager at ATREVIA. The event was also attended by Paulo Neves, President of IPDAL; Yolanda Román, Global Director of Public Affairs at ATREVIA; Daniela Agra, President of ATREVIA Portugal; and members of the diplomatic corps, including His Excellency the Apostolic Nuncio to Portugal, Archbishop Andrés Carrascosa Coso.

The session opened with remarks from Paulo Neves and Daniela Agra, who highlighted the importance of debate and qualified analysis of electoral processes and their impact on institutional stability and Portugal’s international positioning.

The debate concluded with final reflections from the participants, who characterised the new Presidency from different perspectives: Bernardo Blanco emphasised “stability,” Rita Matias described it as “lukewarm,” André Abraão referred to “hope,” and Miguel Relvas characterised it as “secure.”

The presence of His Excellency the Apostolic Nuncio to Portugal, Archbishop Andrés Carrascosa Coso, underscored the institutional significance of the event and its international dimension. His participation reflected the diplomatic community’s interest in analysing the Portuguese political context and reinforced IPDAL’s role as a privileged platform for dialogue between political, institutional, and diplomatic actors.

With this initiative, IPDAL reinforces its role as a platform for dialogue and strategic analysis, promoting informed debate on key political developments and their impact in both the national and international context.
