IPDAL President Participates in the 30th Forum 2000 International Conference

Paulo Neves, President of IPDAL – Institute for the Promotion of Latin America and the Caribbean, participated in the 30th edition of the Forum 2000 International Conference, held in Prague from 11 to 13 October under the theme Reimagining the Power of the Powerless.

Organised by the Forum 2000 Foundation, the conference brought together more than 800 participants, including political leaders, diplomats, activists, experts, journalists and civil society representatives, to discuss contemporary challenges related to democracy, freedom and civic participation.

Among the distinguished personalities present were Álvaro Uribe Vélez, former President of Colombia; Luis Almagro, former Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS); Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, leader of the Belarusian democratic opposition and recipient of the Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought; and Jakub Klepal, Executive Director of the Forum 2000 Foundation, based in Prague.

Paulo Neves’s participation took place within the context of international discussions on defending democratic values, civic responsibility and the challenges facing institutions. This year’s conference also marked the 30th anniversary of the Forum 2000 Foundation and the 90th anniversary of the birth of its founder, Václav Havel, former President of the Czech Republic and a leading figure in the defence of democracy and human rights.

The participation of the IPDAL President in this forum highlights the importance of the Institute’s engagement in international platforms for dialogue and reflection, contributing to stronger institutional relations and closer ties between different regions and perspectives on contemporary challenges.
