Peruvian writer Mario Vargas Llosa was awarded an Honorary Doctorate by the Universidade Nova de Lisboa.

The Godfather was Francisco Pinto Balsemão and the Speaker was Nuno Júdice. The Ceremony took place in Lisbon on the 22nd of July. The President of IPDAL was invited by the Rector of the University to attend the Ceremony. In addition to the President of IPDAL, there were several ambassadors, academics and members of the Portuguese government.
