HAITI

IPDAL expresses its condemnation and deepest condolences to the State and people of Haiti for the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse.

Moïse, 53 years old, was shot at home on July 8, 2021, as was his wife, who survived. As early as February, the President of Haiti had received death threats.

The Caribbean country, which shares a land border with the Dominican Republic, has been in a political, security, economic and social crisis since 2018. However, since the beginning of January the situation has worsened, leading the President to govern mainly by decree .

Authorities in Port-au-Prince said police killed four suspects and arrested six others.

Interim Prime Minister Claude Joseph declared a State of Siege for 15 days.

IPDAL will continue to monitor the situation in the country.
