The Conference “Portugal and the Ibero-American Community of Nations” took place in Lisbon, on October 14th, at the Autonomous University, organized by IPDAL (Institute for the Promotion and Development of Latin America) and UAL (Autonomous University of Lisbon).


The work was opened by the Director of the Department of International Relations at UAL, Professor Dr. Luis Moita, and by the President of IPDAL, Professor Paulo Neves. The Opening Conference was given by the Ibero-American Secretary General, D. Enrique Iglésias. Many ambassadors and other Latin American diplomats and a representative from the Spanish Embassy were present. Another guest speaker was the Spanish Professor and researcher, Celestino Del Arenal, from the Complutense University of Madrid, who spoke about the “Institutionalization of the Ibero-American Community. The regional organizations of Latin America were presented as follows: MERCOSUR by the Ambassador of Uruguay in Portugal, Ambassador Gaston Lasarte; to SICA by the Diplomatic Representative of El Salvador in Portugal, Isabel del Sola. CARICOM by the Ambassador of the Dominican Republic in Portugal, Professor Ana Silvia Reynoso; to CAN by Peruvian minister Luis Solari. Diplomats, students, researchers, members of official departments, teachers, managers and journalists participated as assistants at the Conference.
