The Chilean Minister of Foreign Affairs, who only this year participated twice in IPDAL initiatives, will be the next Ibero-American Secretary General.
Andrés Allamand was guest of honor at the X Meeting “Strategic Triangle: Latin America – Europe – Africa” and purposely visited Portugal, at the invitation of the Institute, within the scope of the VI Iberoamerican Meeting in Cascais .
Allamand was elected by the heads of diplomacy of the Ibero-American countries, gathered in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, for the 1st Meeting of Ibero-American Ministers of Foreign Affairs. This meeting also resulted in a Declaration that calls for the strengthening of multilateralism to articulate new measures for recovery from the COVID-19 crisis.
The Chilean minister will continue in office until the next government takes office, in March 2022, and is expected to formally assume the role of Ibero-American Secretary General the following month, in Madrid. Andrés Allamand will succeed Costa Rican Rebeca Grynspan and Uruguayan Enrique Iglesias.
