Africa XXI 2026

On March 25, another edition of África XXI took place, organized by IPDAL in partnership with the Municipality of Oeiras and the CPLP Business Confederation. Under the theme “Africa at the Center of the Global Strategy,” the initiative brought together policymakers, institutional representatives, academics, and experts to discuss the growing role of the African continent in the international context.

The opening session featured remarks by Paulo Neves, President of IPDAL, Nelma Fernandes, President of the CPLP Business Confederation, and Pedro Patacho, Councillor of the Municipality of Oeiras, who highlighted the importance of strengthening cooperation between Europe and Africa and consolidating strategic partnerships in a changing global landscape.

The program included several thematic panels focused on structural issues in Euro-African relations. Panel I, dedicated to cooperation and development as a bridge between Europe and Africa, brought together experts from institutions such as Camões I.P., UCCLA, CESO Development Consultants, and the Municipality of Oeiras, fostering reflection on international cooperation mechanisms and their impact on sustainable development.

Panel II addressed the theme “CPLP – EU: a space of sustainable economic opportunities,” highlighting the potential for coordination between these regions and the role of economic relations in strengthening multilateral ties. The session included contributions from institutional representatives and academics, reinforcing the importance of structured economic cooperation.

The event also featured a high-level roundtable on the Africa–European Union strategic partnership, bringing together prominent figures from diplomatic and institutional circles, including representatives from the CPLP, UCCLA, and the diplomatic corps accredited in Portugal.

Throughout the meeting, there was a clear consensus on the need to position Africa as a central actor in global dynamics, promoting partnerships based on sustainability, investment, and multilateral cooperation.

África XXI once again established itself as a key platform for strategic dialogue, contributing to the strengthening of relations between Europe and Africa and to the development of a shared, forward-looking agenda.
