14th edition of the Strategic Triangle Meeting

Lisbon was, on 21 and 22 May, the stage for the 14th edition of the Strategic Triangle Meeting: Latin America and the Caribbean – Europe – Africa, a high-level initiative promoted by the Institute for the Promotion of Latin America and the Caribbean (IPDAL). Held under the High Patronage of the President of the Portuguese Republic, the event took place at the Iberostar Lisboa Hotel and brought together over 200 confirmed participants, including political leaders, representatives of international organisations, diplomats, academics, and prominent business figures.

With the theme “Learning from the past, looking to the future”, this edition focused on structural challenges such as sustainable economic growth, defence and security, civic education, technological innovation, and triangular cooperation.

Notable participants included Carlos Vila Nova, President of the Democratic Republic of São Tomé and Príncipe, Félix Ulloa Filho, Vice-President of El Salvador, Peter Altmaier, former Minister of Economy of Germany, María Dolores de Cospedal, former Minister of Defence of Spain, Antonella Cavallari, Secretary-General of the Italo-Latin American Institute, Andrés Allamand, Ibero-American Secretary-General, and Alberto Brunori, Executive Director of the EU-LAC Foundation. The closing session featured a special message from the President of São Tomé and Príncipe, Carlos Vila Nova.

The event reaffirmed IPDAL’s role as a strategic platform for strengthening relations between the three continents, promoting multilateral, sustainable, and inclusive solutions. As IPDAL President Paulo Neves underlined, “the importance of triangular and transatlantic dialogue has never been more evident than today. In a time of global fragmentation, this Meeting is a call for understanding and joint action.”

The Strategic Triangle Meeting will return in 2026, reinforcing Portugal’s commitment as a hub of diplomatic convergence between Latin America, Europe, and Africa.

IPDAL extends its sincere thanks to its partners, whose support made another edition of this Meeting possible:
