IPDAL organized the IV Latin America Meeting – CPLP to promote South-South relations.
At the headquarters of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries, the Institute once again brought together the ambassadors of Latin American countries with those of the CPLP and observer countries. 28 States were represented in the initiative, which also had the presence of large international institutions such as SEGIB.
The representative of the Ibero-American General Secretariat presented the annual report on South-South Cooperation, where it was highlighted that the main model of cooperation continues to be bilateral, with 721 projects and 151 actions identified in Latin America alone. The economic area was the one to which the most projects were allocated, 40% of the total, followed by the social area, with 30%. SEGIB has also carried out initiatives with other developing countries, registering 378 projects in 2015.

In this IV Meeting between Latin American and CPLP countries, SOFID – Society for Development Financing – Caixa Geral de Depósitos and the European Investment Bank also participated, as well as several Portuguese and multinational companies, associations, think tanks and university representatives.

The interventions focused on the need to reinforce multilateralism as an irreplaceable channel for dialogue and the search for solutions to problems common to both blocs. The importance of pursuing the Sustainable Development Goals was also highlighted, with the involvement of the private sector being essential for this.
Since IPDAL holds the Latin America – CPLP Meetings, Uruguay and Chile have already become CPLP Associate Observers and there are more Latin American countries interested.
