Colombian diplomat Pedro Agustín Roa Arboleda has been appointed Vice Minister for Migration, Consular Affairs and International Protection of Colombia, taking on new responsibilities within the country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The swearing-in ceremony took place on 27 August, in the presence of Colombia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Omar Bula Escobar. In his new role, Pedro Agustín Roa Arboleda will have among his main priorities the consolidation of this new Vice Ministry and the strengthening of Colombia’s institutional capacity in the areas of migration, consular affairs and international protection.

With more than 27 years of diplomatic experience, Pedro Agustín Roa Arboleda has built an extensive international career, including serving Colombia in Portugal, where he played an important role in strengthening bilateral relations and fostering closer ties between Colombia and Portugal.

In November 2025, the diplomat was presented with the IPDAL–Vista Alegre Award, in recognition of his contribution to strengthening relations between Portugal and Latin America and the impact of his work in deepening political and diplomatic dialogue between the two countries.
