IPDAL held a networking breakfast between the Embassy of Ecuador and the Portuguese Association of Travel and Tourism Agencies (APAVT).
In front of several tour operators, the Ambassador of Ecuador in Portugal, Diego Aulestia, presented the opportunities that his country offers as a tourist destination: he highlighted the diversity of the territory, with beaches on the Pacific Ocean coast, the Andes mountains with snow all around year, the Amazon region and the Galápagos Islands.
The combination of these four scenarios makes it possible to attract various types of public and constitutes a wide range of activities: surfing on the coastal beaches, snow in Cayambe, volcanoes and hot springs, the possibility of admiring the wealth of fauna, being the country with the greatest biodiversity by square meter in the world and the provision of gastronomic and adventure tourism.
Although the country’s natural wealth is one of its strong points, cultural and health tourism can also be found in the cities of Quito and Cuenca, both considered cultural heritage sites by UNESCO.
In terms of infrastructure, Ecuador has a vast hotel offer with more than 8,000 luxury hotels and 29,000 four-star hotels with the presence of large multinational groups.
The fact that the tourist flow does not exceed 1 million per year represents an opportunity. Ecuador has a lot to discover and is not a mass destination.
The IPDAL initiative generated a favorable environment for establishing contacts and opened an opportunity for, in the near future, a visit by Portuguese businesspeople from the tourism sector to Ecuador.
