Political Reentry with Marques Mendes

The State Councilor shared his predictions for the political year with IPDAL ambassadors and sponsors.

Appointed by the President of the Republic for the term of office from 2016 to 2021, Portugal’s most influential opinion maker was the Institute’s guest at Rentrée Política 2019-2020.

Luís Marques Mendes spoke of the government stability that the country has seen and the expected continuity of the policies that have guided the Government’s action, but warned of the scenario of uncertainty at an international level and the various difficulties that the Portuguese executive could encounter in the coming years.

On November 19th, the former Minister also spoke about the political phenomena that Latin America is experiencing, namely the EU-Mercosur Agreement, and shared ideas about Portugal’s relationship with China, the future of Angola, the European Union and the CPLP , as well as the challenges of the UN and multilateralism.
