IPDAL kicked off the month of May with the IV edition of Mafra Dialogues, on the 2nd and 3rd at the Convento de Mafra.
The only conference in Portugal dedicated to strategic dialogues and peace diplomacy brought together the world’s leading voices on conflict resolution, human rights, and diplomacy, such as His Eminence D. Ivo Scapolo, Oksana Prodan, Ana Isabel Xavier, and Igor Ivanovich Zhovkva.

Mafra Dialogues had the honor of receiving a reading from Archbishop Ivo Scapolo, Apostolic Nuncio in Lisbon, of the message from Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Secretary of State of the Holy See: ‘Unfortunately, we live in a world where wars and divisions sow resentment and fear in hearts, and the other, different from me, is often seen as a rival. Invasive global communication means that this attitude becomes a mentality, that differences appear as symptoms of hostility, and that there is a kind of epidemic of enmity. That’s why our reflection must start with the word ‘peace’.

Ana Isabel Xavier, Secretary of State for National Defence in Portugal, also said a few words: ‘Encouraging strategic dialogues and peace diplomacy at a high level, in favor of peace and multilateralism, is a noble objective that should always deserve our best support.’

We thank all those who attended this conference, and we look forward to the next edition.
